RheoDx develops a portable in-vitro diagnosis device for the analysis of the elastic properties of red blood cells. The product is composed by the electronic device and the consumables, that integrate electronics and microfluidics technology. This test provides evidence about alterations in the biomechanical properties of red blood cells, associated with several acquired and hereditary conditions of a wide range of families, from malaria to hereditary anemias. Thus, it improves considerably the efficiency in many hematology processes. It uses no reagents, which makes it more cost-efficient than conventional analyses. It only needs a drop of blood and takes about 5 minutes to get the results. The technology was developed by researchers in the fields of Mathematics, Physics and Engineering from UB and CRM.
